Chapter 1: Community media, participatory
communication
and development:
Introduction – This chapter will introduce the topic
along with the background of the study, definitions of the key concepts and
central research question. This will also provide the outline of the key

Chapter 2:
Community radio, Skill development and Empowerment:
Literature review and conceptual framework­­–This
chapter will review the relevant literature on community radio and highlight
the notion of skill development trough the CR. This will also explain the
concept of empowerment in the context of a community radio and how the process of
skill development leads to empowerment. An attempt will also be made to define
community radio emphasizing the aspect of skill development and empowerment in
this chapter which will be followed to investigate the case studies in the
latter part of this thesis.

Chapter 3:
Community radio in India and Rajasthan:  This chapter will discuss history, policy and
scope of community radio in India. This will also analyze the policy of
community radio in India in compare to other countries and identify the factors
that hinder the growth. Community radio stations in Rajasthan will also be
discussed in detail highlighting the demographic profile of community and
volunteers of each station.

Chapter
4: Methodology – Chapter four will describes the
research methodology, research design, data collection and data analysis
process, with a detailed description of the study sites (selected community
radio stations of Rajasthan) where fieldwork will be carried out. This chapter
will explain the comprehensive research methodology including details about
sample, sampling procedures, process of data collection, coding and analysis.
The research will primarily employ qualitative methods of analysis which
highlight the role of community radio in the process of skill development. The results
will be discussed to highlight the new dimension of community radio which
explains the contribution of CR in empowering the communities through the
process of skill development.  

Chapter 5: Findings and Discussion-
This chapter will outline the findings of the study. The data will be discussed
along with its inferences and interpretations with an attempt to answer both
the major and minor research questions. Additionally, the implications of the
findings will be reflected upon and its significance will be further discussed.

Chapter 6: Conclusion and
recommendations- This chapter will summaries the key
points of this study and reiterates the significant findings that give strength
to this study. It will also touch upon the extent to which this study managed
to answer the research questions. The discussion under this section will
briefly touch upon the existing debates in this area of scholarship and explain
how it has contributed to the discourse on noise from the social sciences
perspective. This section will also reflect on the possible direction and
research agendas that can be pursued, building on this
study. Towards the end the study will outline the limitations and the key
challenges that were encountered in the process of this research.

Scope
of and Limits to the research

This
is an attempt to fill the lack of fieldwork?rich studies, specifically
placed in Rajasthan state of India by exposing the processes of volunteer’s
participation and empowerment in CR stations. The factors like language barrier
during field visits, biased answers of respondents ; informal conversations,
which would have given access to in?depth and personal
perspectives, Limited literature on CR; lack of access to electronic content; lack
of existing theoretical concepts on CR and its relative aspects can limit strengths
of this study.
