Waste Segregation of Solar-Powered
Water Wheel for the Clean-up Drive in Las Pinas City River
To start the machine, the Water Wheel will first need a
medium-moderate current to turn the wheel that will jumsptart the movement of
the rotator forks connected to the conveyor belt.
The Rotating forks will start to gather nearby garbages
through the use of the containment booms and transfer it towards the conveyor
belt which will serve as a large pathway containing built-in sensors to detect
if the trash is biodegradable or non-biodegradable.
The conveyor belt will separate the garbages and dump
it in the two dumpsters or segregation bins under the conveyor belt.
If the Segregation bins are full, the machine
controller (Computer-controlled or Manual) will manouever the boat towards land
to dispose or transfer the garbages in a landfill or a recycling facility.

The R.A. 9275 is one of
the most prominent environmental laws practiced in the country. It mainly aims
to minimize water pollution caused by human error. A certain Clean-up drive
follows this act because of its main goal which is to clean a certain body of
water through innovative uses. Another
one is the P.D. no. 979 wherein it
states that it is the resident’s responsibility and goal to control activities which
cause pollution by using innovative ways to decrease wastes that might be toxic
in bodies of water and can later on cause biological hazards.
The R.A. 3931 states in its Section 4 that the “Commission may conduct projects such as
experiments, scientific investigations to discover practically innovative
solutions and methods to decrease pollution” in the country. It states that the
Commission can work with any public or private agencies in producing projects
and may accept funding for and in behalf of the National Government provided by
agencies for water and air pollution control projects.

In the Philippines, a variety of alternative solutions and government
projects were provided to eliminate the wastes that are polluting bodies of
water. The continuous disposal of wastes in water sources by people in remote
areas creates the need for a better solution to lessen water pollution. With
the invention of the Solar-Powered Water wheel, these concerns will be easier

The primary objective of this invention is to clean up the copious
amounts of trash that are dumped in the Las Pinas River which results to
it being polluted. With the help of the Solar-Powered Water wheel, river
clean-up drives or other water resources will be easier to conduct with its
effective and efficient collection, segregation and disposal of waste. It can
lessen water pollution and its harmful effects and unlike other inventions, this machine is powered only
by solar panel which does not emit harmful by products or additional wastes to
the environment.Communities: Households that are located near or in
the vicinity of the Las Pinas River that is contaminated will no longer have to
deal with the threats that these waste poses especially with their health as
well as with the state of their surroundings.
Economy: This invention combined old and new
technology to harness the power it needs to operate the machine. The river’s
current gives off power to generate the water wheel, which lifts the trash from
the river and deposits it for segregation. When the water current in the river
is not enough, a solar panel attached to the roof will provide the additional
power that is needed to keep it running. The segregated wastes can then be
recycled into new products. This machine can also be operated manually which
could possibly generate livelihood opportunities for the people. F.
