Darwin’s theory of evolution by natural
selection has long shaped how we think about the living world. His works indeed
were both influential and significant. However, while it has been widely accepted
for decades, his ideas prove to be no longer as accurate as it was before,
especially with the growing discoveries in the field of science. Thus, those
who believe in Intelligent Design will be able to embrace the incredibly
promising and innovative solutions Luke Bawazer outlined in his Tedtalk, “Genetically
Evolved Technology” while rejecting Darwin’s theory.

Those who do not believe in evolution by natural
selection support the theory of evolution by intelligent design according to
Wilson (n.d). As a result, they will most likely be in favor of Bawazer’s idea,
which encompasses certain aspects of their own theory. In his presentation,
Bawazer (2013) highlights that certain biomolecules can be used in making
inorganic materials for technology. Such idea supports the intelligent design
theory that “certain features of the universe and of living things are best
explained by intelligent cause, not an indirect process such as natural
selection” (D., n.d). Bawazer’s idea of genetically evolved technology is
evolution by design in itself as it falls along the lines of creating synthetic
DNA for technological advancement. Cells are more complex that we may have initially
thought, and at some level, they contain a mechanical aspect. In his process,
he plans to use DNA as a starting point, grow materials in a laboratory, and
select only the materials with the most efficient electronic properties for reproduction.

These biomolecule materials will then help produce inorganic based electronic
devices. It can be inferred that such genetic manipulation is a type of
intelligent design. It is also design for a purpose as oppose to the Darwanian
idea of random mutations by natural selection (Wilson, n.d).
