Indian Republic DayAfter 200 decades of being under the yoke of Great Britains colonial empire, the Constitution of India took effect Jan.26 producing what would develop into the largest democracy in the world. Since that time, the country has celebrated the day because its own Republic Day, marking the day it gave its governing document to itself. For the 2016 celebration, French President Francois Hollande is likely to be the chief guest, a honor given to a different head of state each year, India Today reported.
