Innovation next, it will take away from the creative

Innovation and creativity are
critical skills for achieving success in organizations.  The need for creative problem solving
has developed, as more management problems require creative insights in order
to find suitable solutions.  Creativity
and innovation within a well-functioning organization has been recognized as a path
to success.  Creativity can help improve
the process of solving problems.  Creative problem solving gives the competitive edge that businesses
are striving to achieve.  One of the key
problems that ties in with innovation and creativity is where does creativity
reside?  We know that creativity depends
on the quality of persons, products, and processes.  But what happens when someone doesn’t posse
all three of these characteristics?  In
order to reach your full potential of creativity, one must use all three
attributes for creativity.  Although we
may acknowledge that a highly creative person (one capable of highly creative
work) can generate a highly creative thought process (one that yields highly creative ideas), that person
and that thought process are not relevant for study or for management unless the
ideas are somehow expressed(Site).  So, in order to be successful, the person has
to express their creative ideas.  The
problem that lies in many organizations, that people are scared to express their
ideas.  They are not given credit when their
ideas are used, or their ideas are stolen and used by someone higher up in the
organization.  This will definitely put
out the creative flame someone is using.
It’s very discouraging for someone to have creative ideas and not be
able to use them.  Another key problem
that could prevent creativity, is when someone possess to much of one trait in
the three-component model of creativity.
When looking at the model, expertise, task motivation, and creativity
skills, are all used to expand creativity.
If someone lacks a trait or one trait overpowers the next, it will take
away from the creative process, unbalancing the model.  This problem can also be seen in the model
for impacting the environment on creativity.
The organization, just like the individual possess certain elements as well
to help sustain innovation.  In order for
innovation to be effective, the organization must have a balance between resources,
management practices, and organizational motivation.  This can become a problem in organizations, because
there are times when organizations don’t maximum their full potential.
