Jesus Christ is one of the most significant figuresin the history of the world. Church is one of the largest institutions in theworld and it came into being due to his impact.
It is still a part of the contemporaryculture as it once was. Many Books, songs and poems are written about this oneparticular person than any other person in the history of the world. He isworshipped as a deity around the places where Christianity is practiced, someview him as an ordinary person, a man like any other while others see him as anextraordinary teacher and prophet but the mainstream view holds that he existedand had a prominent impact on the world. Still some scholars might not agreehis existence but most of them do accept his historical existence. Proving hisexistence however must not be a concern here.
The concern here is to just make ananalysis of some of teachings and his life as presented in the Gospelnarratives. His teachings dates back to more than thousand centuries but theyare very relevant in the contemporary culture. The fact that there are millionsof followers for Christianity shows how relevant his teachings are to thecontemporary issues and culture. Most of the people belonging to differentfaiths and belief systems still note his teachings and keep them in high regardwhether they follow or not. Many Humanitarian works and advocacy of the rightsof most of the suppressed binaries are influenced by his teachings. A closerexamination of his teachings and the narrative about him in the gospel books inthe light of the binaries must be made to understand how there are manycontradictions in them to the most popular social norms and stereotypes. Henever owned an army or wrote any books or changed any laws in fact he himselfsaid that he did not come to break the existing law.
Without advocating for achange in the law or the government or the system he radically did somethingthat made him a voice for the oppressed and downtrodden by the hegemonic powerstructure. All he did was that he taught as one having authority, healed peoplegoing from town to town. Some might have serious disagreements with hismiracles but making an analysis of him and his teachings based on the gospelnarrative is very necessary to understand the full impact of Christ as he is perceivedby the majority of his followers in light of the canonical gospels and not inany other non gospel texts, of course the difference in denominations existwithin Christianity and this causes some differences in the understanding ofhim by his followers but those are minor things and they do not change the wayhis character is perceived as a whole.
Minor differences in interpretations donot change the major attributes of the character conveyed in the Bible. Thus, the endeavor to be made is to understand how the life and teachings of him recordedin the gospels subverted binaries, contrasted the popular opinions and beliefsof the day and was and is a major threat to various constructs.
