World when World War II began. “Over the next

World war II began in the year 1939, and didn’t end until 1945. This war involved nearly every part of the globe, and consisted of two main factions; the AXIS and ALLIES. The Axis consisting of: Germany, Japan, and Italy to an extent. The Allies consisting of France, Great Britain, and the United States. This war would go on to become infamous in many aspects introducing new technology, weapons, and drastic consequences for everyone around the globe. One of the sparks that ignited WWII was the Treaty of Versailles, for the people of Germany the treaty was much too harsh, which started an avalanche which would lead to the start of the second world war. “Germany could not afford to pay the money and during the 1920’s the people in Germany were very poor. There were not many jobs and the price of food and basic goods was high. People were dissatisfied with the government and voted to power a man who promised to rip up the Treaty of Versailles. His name was Adolf Hitler.” “World War Two – Causes.” History.  Adolf Hitler was made chancellor in January of 1933. At this point in time he began building the machine which would later be the Nazi party. He began building tanks, planes, warships, pretty much anything you could think of which would be necessary for battle. And would solidify his ground as a terror to multiple countries. The rise of Communism was a fear all across the world from Great Britain to France. And while these two countries were afraid to take down Germany, (who was weak at the time). It allowed Hitler to build his army and march straight into the Rhineland in 1936. This war was a continuation of the almost 20 year pause between WWI and WWII , it would help settle unsettled disputes left by the aftermath of WWI:”The 40,000,000–50,000,000 deaths incurred in World War II make it the bloodiest conflict, as well as the largest war, in history.” “World War II.” Encyclopædia Britannica . No other war in history had caused this much devastation and damage to the countries involved, and the advancements in military technology contributed to the death toll rising as high as it did.Along with WWI, WWII would become one of the bloodiest battles in history. The outcome of WWI created a great instability in Europe, and set a pathway to WWII. At this point in time Adolf Hitler began his rise to power in Germany, along with his socialist party. They “rearmed the nation and signed strategic treaties with Italy and Japan to further his ambitions of world domination.” Staff. “World War II.” Hitler then began to invade Poland in September 1939, this drove Great Britain and France to declare war on Germany which is when World War II began. “Over the next six years, the conflict would take more lives and destroy more land and property around the globe than any previous war. Among the estimated 45-60 million people killed were 6 million Jews murdered in Nazi concentration camps as part of Hitler’s diabolical “Final Solution,” now known as the Holocaust.” Staff. “World War II.” One of the driving conflicts of the war for Hitler was his hatred for the Jewish people, he believe that killing them all would help create a pure Aryan race. In many ways, World War II grew from unresolved conflicts and tensions from WWI as mentioned before. “But political and economical instability in Germany and lingering resentment over the harsh terms imposed by the Versailles Treaty, fueled the rise to power of Adolf Hitler and his National Socialist (Nazi) Party.” Staff. “World War II.” In 1933 Hitler became Reich Chancellor, but then quickly took power and declared himself the Führer or “Supreme Leader” in 1934. He then began his quest for a “Pure” Aryan race as some call it. He believed war was the only way to achieve this, as it would help create the living space for the race to expand. “After signing alliances with Italy and Japan against the Soviet Union, Hitler sent troops to occupy Austria in 1938 and the following year annexed Czechoslovakia.” Staff. “World War II.” Which would be one of the many countries involved in the conflict at hand.As time went on Hitler’s rage and aggression went unchecked by Great Britain and the United States, which allowed him to grow his power. Hitler then signed a German-Soviet pact with Joseph Stalin in 1939. On September 1, 1939, Hitler invaded Poland, followed by the Soviet Union attacking Poland from the east, which caused it to fall quickly; two days later, France and Britain declared war on Germany, beginning World War II and the battles that followed. “During the six months following the invasion of Poland, the lack of action on the part of Germany and the Allies in the west led to talk in the news media of a “phony war.” “World War II.” But on the Atlantic Ocean, German and British forces were battling it out, in a whole different theater of war. Which was the longest military battle, and where eventually Germany would be defeated. On April 9th, 1940; Hitler invaded Norway and occupied Denmark at the same time, and the war began in earnest. On May 10, German forces swept through Belgium and the Netherlands in what became known as “blitzkrieg,” or lightning war.” “History: World War Two.” BBC. After this Germany invaded Paris, France. And the city was divided into two zones, one under German military occupation and the other under Petain’s government. On December 7th, 1941 the U.S. was invaded by Japan on the coast of Pearl Harbor, and were attacked by 360 Japanese aircraft. America was completely taken by surprise, and 2,300 soldiers were killed. This event unified Americans and helped them decide to step into WWII. So on December 8th congress declared war on Japan. After six months of continuous naval victories by Japan, the U.S. Pacific Fleet won the Battle of Midway in June 1942, which proved to be a turning point in the war. On Guadalcanal, one of the southern Solomon Islands, the Allies also had success against Japanese forces in a series of battles from August 1942 to February 1943, helping turn the tide further in the Pacific. This is where the battle of WWII took itself to the air and sea, not just land. The battles were on all fronts, and everywhere on the globe conflicts were occurring. Some of the most well-known battles include the “Battle of Britain (1940), Stalingrad (1942-3), El Alamein (1942-3), Iwo Jima (1945), and the Battle of the Bulge (1944-5). The D-Day landings in June 1944 are also some of the most famous events from the war, since many people consider it a turning point in the course of the war. D-Day resulted in the liberation of Paris, and allowed the Allied forces to close in around Germany.” “Home.” World War 2. Without these events occuring the liberation of Paris may never have happened, which could have caused a turning in the war against the allies. By 1944, the Nazi attack on the Soviet Union was proving unsuccessful, and the Soviets were bringing the Eastern front closer to Germany, meaning that the final year of the war saw Hitler stop fighting his own offense, and switching to tactics of defence.World War II proved to be a devastating international conflict, taking the lives of 35-60 million people, including Adolf Hitler himself, who commited suicide by May 1945. Six million Jewish citizens were killed at the hands of the Nazi regime, which would add an additional toll to the death count and change history forever. Millions of other people were injured and lost everything due to the war, and it would take years to recover. The legacy of this war would live in infamy, and would last for decades to come, and would eventually lead to the Cold War in the future.Once peace had been achieved, many of the countries began to rebuild and recover, and would move on from the devastating event that was World War II.  It began with what was called “year zero”. With over 60 million people dead, most people had to start from scratch. There were millions of people who fled, and each person who ran was labeled as a “displaced person”. Some fleeing away from the tyranny of their countries in hope of something better, and some who just wanted a new start. There were orphaned children and homeless adults all across the world, but the Allies did their best to feed and house these individuals. It was a difficult task with all the ports destroyed from the war. Which made it difficult to transfer not only supplies across the world, but people. But they persevered and kept pushing. At this point in time, Germany began to become De-nazified and began to make changes into the country it once was. But if all the Nazis were to be removed from Germany the country would become unworkable, so they created a crime for them in order to just punish them, which would be known as a “crime against humanity”. These steps would begin the cycle to return some peace to the surrounding world, and would help move everyone past the devastating events that took place.
